What is C-section and Hystectomy Scar therapy?

-          Help lessen pain, tightness and pulling around the scar itself and the surrounding tissues

-          Help improve tightness elsewhere such as in your neck, thorax, lower back and pelvis

-          Reduce tight connections in the fascial tissue

-          Help return you to exercise

At what point after my C-section can I receive Scar Therapy?

Clare will be really happy to see you for treatment as soon as your scar has healed.  This means it must be fully closed with no obvious scabs or stitches visible.  We would expect the scar to be ready for this approximately 6 weeks after your surgery. Results are usually quicker for more recent scars. It is possible to work on much older scars, progress is often slower but positive effects can still be achieved.

Is C-section scar therapy a painful treatment?

Clare, our women’s health specialist physiotherapist has been specially trained in this type of therapy. The techniques are expected to be pain free. However, it is possible that you could have a highly sensitised and painful scar, if this is the case Clare will tailor the treatment for maximum comfort. There are specific desensitisation techniques and strategies that she can use.

 Who performs the therapy?

All of our C-Section and Hysterectomy Scar Treatment and Scar Massage is performed by our Women’s Health Specialist Physiotherapist Clare Haslam. She has been working in this area for over a decade and is a member of the special interest group Pelvic, Obstetric & Gynaecology Physiotherapy (POGP).

How often do I need treating?

You can benefit from a single session as well as from repeat treatments. However, it may be that in order to get the best results we recommend a course of treatment for your scar with some repeat sessions. This is entirely optional.
